Re: [802SEC] Preamble update for 802 LMSC response to adminstrations

Dear George, Geoff,

Thanks for the proposed edits and comments.    Is there any chance both of you can reach consensus on the proposed text change?  I will then talk to Yvette and Jodi on a single proposal (rather than two).  But if you prefer me to bring both proposals to Yvette and Jodi, I am fine with that too :)

Regards,
Edward

How about:
"IEEE 802 LMSC is a leading consensus-based industry standards developer of wireless data standards. It operates under the IEEE Standards Association and the IEEE, a major world-wide accredited standards developing organization."

Edward/Colleagues-

I don't agree with the change.

1. I don't find any flaw in the old text. What is the alledged flaw?

2. I do find flaws in the text proposed by the consultation with staff. The IEEE-SA occasionally adopts standards developed elsewhere without change. That is contrary to the proposed statement.

I do believe that the SA as a whole is adequately described and advertised in the closing paragraph. Our old text is accurate in NOT saying that we speak for any of the IEEE outside the bounds of 802. I believe that the market success of IEEE 802 Wireless standards is sufficient to provide the weight to our input to regulatory bodies that we seek.

In summary, I oppose the change.

Sincerely,

Dear Paul and colleagues,

In the most recent 802.18 weekly teleconference call when we reviewed a draft submission to an administration, a participant raised a good comment that the following phrase may not be exactly true: "IEEE 802 LMSC is a leading consensus-based industry standards body" that we always use as a preamble on an introduction of IEEE 802 LMSC.

Thanks to the discussion among Paul, Jodi, and Yvette, the phrase is now updated as "IEEE is a leading consensus-based standards developing organization".

For completeness, I copy and paste the updated preamble below for your reference:

------------
IEEE 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee (LMSC) thanks Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for issuing the consultation “Public consultation on proposed Malaysia’s positions for World Radiocommunication Conference 2023 (WRC-23) agenda items” and for the opportunity to provide feedback on this topic.

IEEE 802 LMSC is a leading consensus-based industry standards bodyIEEE is a leading consensus-based standards developing organization, producing standards for wireless networking devices, including wireless local area networks (“WLANs”), wireless specialty networks (“WSNs”), wireless metropolitan area networks (“Wireless MANs”), and wireless regional area networks (“WRANs”). We also produce standards for wired Ethernet networks, and technologies produced by implementers of our standards are critical for all networked applications today.

IEEE 802 LMSC is a committee of the IEEE Standards Association and Technical Activities, two of the Major Organizational Units of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). IEEE has about 400,000 members in over 160 countries. IEEE’s core purpose is to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. In submitting this document, IEEE 802 LMSC acknowledges and respects that other components of IEEE Organizational Units may have perspectives that differ from, or compete with, those of IEEE 802 LMSC. Therefore, this submission should not be construed as representing the views of IEEE as a whole[1].
