Paul Carroll COMMENTS I'm a relative newcomer to the 802.1 group (I've had voting privileges for all of six days now), and don't feel I have enough involvement with 802.1p/D3 to give a detailed review. However, I do have a couple of general comments... As per discussed in the 802.1 interim meeting in Wakefield, I don't believe that 802.1p/D3 properly addresses MAC unicast addressing. More specifically, it lacks the ability to allow a single MAC to use multiple class of services (priorities). This stems from the fact that a frames priority is determined by information within the bridges filtering data base, rather than from the frame directly. I don't believe 802.1p should include priority handling for unicast addressing. Furthermore, in light of potential overlap between 802.1p and 802.1q brought up in Wakefield, I would like to see further discussion amongst the 802.1 community on the suitability of 802.1p for multicast priority handling as well. /Paul Carroll /Plaintree Systems Inc. /carroll@plntree.synapse.net
