IEEE VLAN Interim Mtg January 24-25, 1996 Sheraton, Milpitas 1801 Barber Lane Milpitas, CA 95035 (408) 943-0600 Contact: Sheryl Perry Room Rate: $110/night*** Conf Room: N/C *** Please stress that when making reservations, guests MUST refer to the IEEE 802.1 room rate so that the reservation agent doesn't confuse the meeting that will take place on Jan 8-12. For those who have joined the email exploder since this meeting was decided on and announced: At the November 802 meeting we (802.1) decided to have a coordinated unofficial 802.1 meeting on VLANs to prepare input for the March meeting of 802. Coordinated because we felt the need to meet together and get some work done, unofficial because there were enough people who weren't able to attend (apparently) that they didn't want the meeting to go ahead and make decisions for them, but would be very happy for it to take place so that we could all consider its suggestions in March. I put out a request for input/presentations to the meeting, with a strong plea for those which would help structure the discussion in a way that would bring us together toward a scheme/architecture that would unify the different approaches rather than drive us toward competing irreconcileable views. I've had three of these, and suggest that we use them to initiate discussion and structure it so that we can get a lot of work done. 1. VLAN Architecture/Problem Partioning - Norm Finn, Floyd Backes My understanding of this proposal is that it builds on a combination of the VLMP ideas from Dave Cheriton and Keith McCloghrie's ideas of how to unify ATM, tagging schemes, and non-tagging schemes from the November meeting, in order to breakdown the issues to manageable pieces. 2. An Efficient Frame-Tagging Format for VLANs - John Wakerly 3. Forwarding Methods for VLAN-Tagged Frames in a Bridged LAN - John Wakerly To: p8021@nic.hep.net Subject: 802.1 VLAN Interim Meeting - Reminder and Initial Agenda Date: Tue, 23 Jan 1996 13:51:10 -0800 From: Mick Seaman Meeting will start at 9.00 prompt on Wednesday.
