Compliance with the family of IEEE 802 Standards is defined, and a standard for the identification of public, private, and standard protocols is included. 5.4 Purpose of Proposed Standard: This standard serves as the foundation for the family of IEEE 802 Standards published by IEEE for Local Area Networks (LANs), Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs), and Personal Area Networks (PANs). Old Purpose: Revision of existing IEEE 802-1990 standard to reflect the current IEEE 802 architecture and its suite of standards.
5.5 Need for the Project: Revision of existing IEEE 802-2001 standard is needed to remove redundant material and reflect the current IEEE 802 architecture and its suite of standards.
