Norm Finn Basic Format(s) & Resolution Paul Franz --------------------- Basic Forwarding Rules A Bridge forwards a received frame out of every port (except the port on which the frame was received) including vLAN ports except as restricted by the application of the following rules in order: Rule 0) Classify the frame and get one answer. 1) Frames are only forwarded thru ports which support the vLAN with which the frame is associated deleted..->(including the 'default' vLAN if such a concept is supported) ...XXX i.e. on all .1D standard bridge ports specifically supporting the vLAN for the frame. 2) Amongst the ports selected by rule 1) & 3), frames are only forwarded thru ports which are in spanning tree state 'forwarding' for the vLAN with which the frame is associated. 3) Amongst the ports selected by rule 1), if the destination address has been learnt on one of these pports, the frame is only forwareded thru that port. Addresses are learnt independently for each vLAN with which they may be associated. ------------------------------
