Re: [STDS-802-11-AANI] How to Progress the Work on the Technical Report on Interworking?

Dear Binita and members.

Thank you for comments on report 20/0013.
From my understanding of your presentation, your major comment means that STA of WLAN domain can provide radio data path only and  UE of 3GPP domain can do the required functions and communication protocols to interwork with 5G core network.
This is correct for the case that UE and STA are collocated and interworking functions can be implemented by using intrinsic functions of UE and STA.

However, practical deployment of WLAN domain has to consider STA and WLAN access network only without the function of UE. This report includes this case, which is called loosely coupled WLAN interworking.  The remaining comments are discussed and fixed, or proposed to be changed by you. I expect that your comments will contribute to clarify and upgrade report.

Thank you.

Hi Joseph,

The authors of 20/1031 (Binita and Necati) would be happy to respond to any questions on the comments in 20/1031, from the authors of 20/0013 and others.

Also we would be fine to have offline discussions with the authors of 20/0013.

Thanks,

Binita

Graham -  You are quite correct that discussion may be had on a poll to clarify the poll.

I encourage the authors  of both 20/0013 and 20/1031 to reply to this email, via the reflector.  (note if you do not have reflector access, please email me and I will post your reply).

Thank you in advance.

Also it was mentioned on today's call that the authors of 20/0013 had seen the comments provided in 20/1031 - though I don't know if they had adequate time to review and respond.

Discussion is encouraged both off-line and on this reflector.

Hi Joe,

It is normal to have a discussion on a poll, and before I can make my choice I would like to know:

  1. Have the authors of 20/0013 had the time to consider the comments in 20/1031?
  2. Have the authors of 20/0013 had any discussions at all with the author(s) of 20/1031?
  3. Have the authors of 20/1031 suggested text and figure changes to the authors of 20/0013?

Lacking such information, as the comments embedded into the document 20/0013 are not in the formal form that should be used for Comments, I would suggest that the way forward should be your #2.  In this way, the comments can be made in the correct format and with proposed changes that can be considered correctly.

Hence I would suggest support for option #2.

I will formally vote separately.

Thank you,

Graham

Subject: [STDS-802-11-AANI] How to Progress the Work on the Technical Report on Interworking?

Dear All,

At today’s (14 July 9:00-10:00AM) AANI SC teleconference comments were provided in 11-20/1031r2 on the Draft Technical Report: 11-20/0013r3.

The meeting ended prior to the AANI SC being able to make a decision on how to progress this work. (Due to poor time management on my part and technical issues with Webex.)

I believe that the AANI SC has two ways forward:

  1. Consider the comments provided in 11-20/1031r2 (as presented during the meeting) and update the report before submitting the report for WG comment collection.
  2. Submit 11-20/0013r3 for WG comment collection “now” and consider the comments provided in 11-20/1031r2 during the comment resolution phase, along with other comments received during the WG comment collection.

Your response:

            I prefer way forward:  1 or 2

Please vote your preference for 1 or 2 directly to me via e-mail: jslevy@xxxxxxxx

(This can be done by replying to this e-mail, without reply all.)

Please use the reflector for all technical/procedural discussion - but not for this straw poll.

I will tabulate the results of this poll and share the result on the reflector.  Note: I will not share how individuals have voted.

Please reply with your preferred way forward (vote) prior to Wednesday 15 July 11:00 AM ET as I will need the result of this poll to determine how to progress the work.

Thank you for your support of the AANI SC.
