[STDS-802-11-CAC] No Opening Ceremony - ad hoc time available

--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Chairs' Advisory Committee Reflector ---

Dear CAC,

The expected opening ceremony will not take place. The 802.11 opening plenary is still scheduled to begin at 1:30pm.

The time block between 11:00 to 12:30 is available for ad hoc activities.

Does anyone wish ad hoc time?

Please note that while we have this extra time 11-12:30 given back,

That changes to your desired room request would need to be be addressed immediately.

We are only 11 days from start of our Plenary Session.

Desired changes to setup would need to be communicated to our venue providers sooner than later to have a chance to make the adjustment.

Note that the initial plan for the room assignments and setups has been communicated to the service/venue providers already, and plans are in place to meet that current schedule.

Regards,
Jon

IEEE 802 Exec Secretary

All-

We had expected the need for an Opening Ceremony in Beijing to recognize meeting sponsors and possibly CCSA, but all have all chosen to decline. Opening Ceremonies are fairly costly to produce, further stressing the session budget, so rather than attempting to produce one on our own, the better part of valor in this case is not to have one. By the way, there is no hidden message in the declines, in case you wondering. It is just the way things worked out.  In any event, you now have some extra time for your WG/TAG activities.

We will still be publicly recognizing WSN and Huawei, but in other ways.  WSN made it possible to hold the session by acting as our local host and provider of the invitation letters for the visas. Huawei is graciously contributing $20k to the Session treasury. We owe them both a vote of thanks for their support
