Re: [STDS-802-11-TGAK] TGak Telecon Minutes Posted

Norm,

I understand your point, in the general case.

In this case, though, this isn't a subtle issue, and broad follow-on discussion is useful.

Dave,

Note that 802.11-2012 has already reduced any reference to WDS to some obscure bits of SDL, and a definition that it says is obsolete and on the way out. I am familiar with the discussions in the early days of 802.11 around all this, but ever since then, the idea has been fading away - from the Standard that is. I agree it is "vernacular," but for a non-standardized (and often non-interoperable) technique that is done in the field. That leaves us in a quandary about if/how much to worry about it in our ongoing discussions, both in TGak and ARC SC.

Donald,

Of particular interest to TGak, is that this method of AP-to-AP wireless connection (and, no, one of the APs does _not_ switch to being a non-AP STA to do this - it is truly a different mode) has a lot of the flavor of an 802 bridge. I think the concepts used by WDS have all been brought up in the TGak discussions, but a review to see if there's anything new/missed would be good.

Mark

IMO, this is why minutes should not try to record conversations. Fewer post-facto arguments over facts and emphasis.
