Re: [STDS-802-11-TGBE] transmitting link id

Hi folks

I don't really see the need to add more qualifiers around link id info. A link actually has a transmitter and a receiver. I would prefer not to add more terminology in the name - let's just keep it simple and leave it.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Gaurang, Ming and all,

Gaurang, thanks. I repeat my suggestion below:

If the concern is for non-TxBSSID, how about “host” link id info  or “anchor” link id info instead of “transmitting link id info”? This can work for both TxBSSID and nonTxBSSID. The intention is to differentiate the link whose info is not included in the STA Profile but is carried in the frame body outside the MLE and/or the common info field of the MLE. “Link ID Info” is too generic and can lead to confusions.

Regards,

Rojan

Hi Rojan, all,

The following are the comments that are asking for changing the name of the Link ID Info subfield carried in the Common Info field of the Basic Multi-Link element. As discussed during today’s call, I have deferred these CIDs.

The name of "Link ID Info" is not clear enough, suggest changing it to "Transmitting Link ID Info"

as in comment

Too distinguish the term of Link ID subfield and Link ID info subfield, can we change the term of  Link ID info to Link info subfield containing Link ID subfield.

as the comments.

Since the Link ID Info field is intended to carry the link identifier of the link in which the MLE is transmitted, the field should be renamed to a more descriptive name (e.g. Host Link ID or Transmitting Link ID), else the name Link ID Info is easy to confuse with Link Info field.

Rename the Link ID Info field to a more descriptive name (e.g. Host Link ID or Transmitting Link ID) and also rename the Link ID Info Present subfield in the Presence Bitmap.

This topic has been discussed a number of times and I have received some feedback from members that a name change is needed. I would like to initiate this discussion to solicit input on a suitable term to differentiate b/w the Link ID for a reported link and a reporting link. Requesting members to provide their suggestions so that I can resolve these CIDs.

Thanks,

Gaurang
