Re: [STDS-802-11-TGBE] Requesting agenda time for CR discussion

Hi Vishnu,

Let me try and respond:

  1. Link recommendation concept has already been agreed in the spec. The only changes that are done here is to extend it so that it applies not only to DL buffered BUs for non-AP MLDs with PS STAs, but also for UL. There was no fairness concern in the group for the existing mechanism, there is no reason to have concern with the extension, just because it’s now applying also for UL. More generally, the normative text is a “should” statement (and the STA has the possibility to not follow it if it has some issues that the AP is not aware of), and this feature will enable efficient load balancing in dense enterprise deployments (which brings significant value to ML operation actually and better operation/performance for the non-AP MLD)
  2. Periodicity is up to the AP. It can be as frequent as every DTIM, which was judge sufficient, while it could be changed every beacon as currently defined in the spec. It an AP MLD starts doing recommendations for the non-AP MLDs, it will have to continue properly adjusting that recommendation over time.
  3. I don’t understand that comment. Link recommendation is defined in this subclause today so that’s not a new feature at all. There are clear comments to extend that existing mechanism so that it’s more useful based on discussion with a very wide community of contributors so this document is just doing this.
  4. They will be ignored or not transmitted depending on the scenario. Based on the discussion we had, it was judged that the link recommendation frame extension covers all the use cases already, and there is a growing sensitivity about the beacon bloating issue.

Thanks,

Laurent

Hi Laurent,

I have some concerns about this document in its current form:

1.      When a nonAP device is an MLD (which the user has paid for), and each of the channels are free for all, how can the AP MLD unilaterally make a recommendation to only some AIDs to use a subset of links for UL/DL transmissions? There can be a fairness concern in my opinion.

2.      When will this link recommendation frame be transmitted and with what periodicity? How long is the nonAP MLD expected to comply with the recommendation such details are missing.

3.      It is fine if the proposal is for introducing a new feature of link recommendation for load balancing, but how does this tie in with multi-link traffic indication for buffered traffic? Why have significant changes been made to the section on multi-link traffic indication when none of the listed CIDs ask for it?

4.      What happens to the bits corresponding to AID with default-mapping in the per-link traffic indication bitmap of the multi-link traffic indication element that is transmitted along with the TIM element in beacons? Are they ignored? Why enforce this?

Regards,

Vishnu
