Re: [STDS-802-11-TGBE] Discussion on CID 12036

Hi Mike, Stephen,

The highlight test is suggested by Abhi.

How about this?

affiliated AP: An affiliated station (STA) that is an access point (AP) STA and provides additional high medium access control (MAC) services for legacy STA.

Thanks

Best Regards

Hi All,

My preference would be to not include the "highlighted text". With the definition tied back to an affiliated STA the highlighted text does not provide any meaningful additional information.

Cheers,

Mike

Jay,

apologies for the delay in responding, but I don't think your highlighted text will work. As this is a definition, there is no context and so the term "corresponding" does not work, as the reader does not know that when you have an affiliated AP, there is also an MLD involved. My suggestion is to remove this text. Thanks.

Kind regards

Stephen

Hi Guogang,

I think the definition of affiliated AP should align with the reference mode in subclause 5, like in Figure 5-2b.

affiliated AP: An affiliated station (STA) that is an access point (AP) STA and the corresponding MLD is an AP MLD, and provides additional high medium access control (MAC) services for legacy STA.

Thanks

Hi Guogang,

Thank you for initiating this discussion.

As I mentioned in the Webex chat, I am in favor of keeping the existing definition and adding a new definition for an affiliated AP. The new definition will refer back to the existing definition and say that the STA is an AP STA. Since we are providing definition for an affiliated AP, why not consider affiliated non-AP STA as well?

Something like the following:

affiliated STA: A station (STA), which can be an access point (AP) STA or non-access point (non-AP) STA, that provides link-specific, lower medium access control (MAC) and physical layer (PHY) services within a multi-link device (an MLD).

^^ no change to the existing definition.

affiliated AP: An affiliated station (STA) that is an access point (AP) STA and the corresponding MLD is an AP MLD.

affiliated non-AP STA: An affiliated station (STA) that is a non-access point (non-AP) STA and the corresponding MLD is a non-AP MLD.

I am OK if the group decides not to include the highlighted portion.

I am open to consider other suggestions.

Regards,
Abhi

A definition of affiliated AP is missing, while affiliated STA is defined. Since affilicated AP is used through the whole document (138 times vs 56 times for affiliated STA), may I suggest to add one, e.g.:
affiliated AP: An access point (AP) that provides link-specific, lower medium access protocol (MAC) services within an access point multi-link device (an AP MLD).

As in comment

Generally, there are three options based on received comments:

·        Option 1. Rejected. Because the current definition of affiliated STA already has mentioned “which can be access point (AP) STA or non-access point (non-AP) STA”.

affiliated STA: A station (STA), which can be an access point (AP) STA or non-access point (non-AP) STA, that provides link-specific, lower (#11813)medium access control (MAC) and physical layer (PHY) services within a multi-link device (an MLD)(#10370).

·        Option 2. Revised. Modified the current definition of affiliated STA to cover both affiliated STA and affiliated AP

·        Option 3. Revised. Just add the corresponding definition of affiliated AP and don’t change the current definition of affiliated STA.

Please feel free to provide your thoughts on it.
