[STDS-802-11-TGBN] Initiate the discussion of definitions in MAPC Framework
Hi all,
Could we further discuss the relevant changes to the definitions within the MAPC framework? The changes are based on 25/638r2.1. The definition for "coordinated/coordinating AP"
Access point identifier: [AP ID] A value assigned by an AP to identify a coordinated AP during the operation of the multi-AP Coordination (MAPC) framework.
Multi-AP coordination (MAPC) Access point identifier: [MAPC AP ID] A value assigned by an AP to identify a coordinated AP during the operation of the multi-AP Coordination (MAPC) framework
The original definition of AP ID is confined to the MAPC framework; however, the term "AP ID" itself is more general. Therefore, we have revised the original "AP ID" to "MAPC AP ID".
2. The definitions for "coordinated/coordinating AP"
coordinated access point (AP): [coordinated AP] An AP that either adjusts the duration of its obtained transmission opportunity (TXOP) to extend protection of a requesting AP, or with which a coordinating AP shares a portion of its obtained TXOP by allocating time portions to it or permitting concurrent transmissions as part of a multi-AP coordination (MAPC) procedure.
coordinating access point (AP): [coordinating AP] An AP that has obtained a transmission opportunity (TXOP) and intends to share its obtained TXOP with a set of coordinated APs by either allocating time portions to them or permitting concurrent transmissions as part of a multi-AP coordination (MAPC) procedure.
In the MAC meeting held on April 28, the following main viewpoints were discussed:
a) The behaviors of the coordinated AP and coordinating AP should be kept consistent;
b) Whether it is necessary to incorporate the co-RTWT concept into the definitions of coordinating AP and coordinated AP;
c) It was suggested to revise the definitions of coordinated AP and coordinating AP to make them more general.
Based on the above discussion and your esteemed suggestions, we have proposed the following revised text:
coordinated access point (AP): [coordinated AP] An AP that is granted one or more resources (e.g. TXOP, BW, etc.), or is otherwise coordinated by a coordinating AP as part of a multi-AP coordination (MAPC) procedure.
coordinating access point (AP): [coordinating AP] An AP that shares one or more of its resources (e.g. TXOP, BW, etc.), or otherwise coordinates with coordinated APs within a TXOP it has obtained as part of a multi-AP coordination (MAPC) procedure.
Through this revision, we aim to maintain the consistency of the coordinated AP definition, make it more general, and at the same time leave flexibility to accommodate Co-RTWT operations. However, we have the following questions regarding this revision.
Can a description such as "one or more resources (e.g., TXOP, BW, etc.)" capture the characteristics of Co-SR and Co-BF?
As the concepts of responding AP and requesting AP are already defined in a very general manner, is it necessary to make the definitions of coordinated AP and coordinating AP more general as well? Multi-AP coordination (MAPC) requesting AP: [MAPC requesting AP] An AP that initiates a MAPC procedure with a MAPC responding AP for one or more MAPC schemes. Multi-AP coordination (MAPC) responding AP: [MAPC responding AP] An AP that responds to a MAPC requesting AP.
Please take a moment to review it and feel free to share any feedback or suggestions you may have.
