Re: [STDS-802-11-TGBN] 回复: [STDS-802-11-TGBN] Request to queue 25/1238 - Seamless roaming CR for clause 4

Hi Binita

In case of distributed SMD, main functions in the Sublayer 2 is association management, although this can also be thought as SMD-ME function. The data path upper MAC functions are at each AP MLD.
For centralized mode, Sublayer 2 would perform many of the data path functions (as defined in baseline) for DL/UL data exchange with DS.

I generally agree with your description, but it leads me to the conclusion that, in distributed case, an SMD-level "MAC sublayer" is unnecessary.
The MAC sublayers should sit under the MAC-SAP.
The control plane (including SMD-ME) will be in the MLME and/or SME. Figure 4-27 in baseline shows both the 802.1X Authenticator and RSNA Key Management blocks as residing in the SME.
Per text below from 11bn D0.3, the Authenticator has components in both the SMD-ME and the AP MLD; the latter would reside in the SME of the AP MLD.

In the case of a separate MAC SAP per AP MLD, ....  the component of the 802.1X Authenticator in the

SMD-ME interacts with an 802.1X Authenticator component in the AP MLD that manages the 802.1X

Controlled Port for the non-AP MLD.

Dear Binita

Thank you for preparing this Draft.

Please find my comments as below:

1Could you please explain in detail the differences between Sublayer1 and Sublayer2?

<BG> at the concept level, upper MAC functionality in SMD is split across AP MLD and the SMD-ME. That is what is shown by these two sublayers.

Exact split of these functions in Sublayer 1 and SUblayer 2 would need further discussion.

2Why in the centralized SMD mode, the MAC-SAP is on Sublayer 2, while in the distributed SMD mode, it is on Sublayer 1?

<BG> This is as per the architecture agreed in already passed motion for seamless roaming - support a distributed mode that has a MAC-SAP per AP MLD and support a centralized mode that has a single MAC-SAP for the SMD.

Best regards 祝工作顺利!

Hi Alfred,

Could you please queue following document in the MAC queue:
- 25/1238:
CR for seamless roaming clause 4

All - please review and provide any comments you have on this doc.

Thanks,

Binita
