Re: [STDS-802-11-TGBN] [Roaming TTT]: Please review proposed resolution for 6147

Thanks Mark for checking grammar.

Updated suggestion:

NOTE -- While maintaining an association to the SMD-ME, if a non-AP MLD performs an SMD BSS transition to a target AP MLD, the existing SMD_KDK is used to derive the new per-AP MLD PTK no matter whether or not regardless of whether the non-AP MLD was previously connected to that AP MLD.

Best,

-Giovanni

Hi all, thanks for the discussion,

Proposing edits for clarity:

NOTE -- While maintaining an association to the SMD-ME, if a non-AP MLD performs an SMD BSS transition to a target AP MLD, the existing SMD_KDK is used to derive the new per-AP MLD PTK no matter whether or not regardless the non-AP MLD being previously connected to that AP MLD.

Please let me know if it makes sense to you.

OK I think that direction could work, but I think it can be polished and simplified a bit. Suggest:

NOTE -- While maintaining an association to the SMD-ME, if a non-AP MLD performs an SMD BSS transition to a target AP MLD, the existing SMD_KDK is used to derive the new per-AP MLD PTK no matter whether or not the non-AP MLD previously connected to that AP MLD.

Thanks

How about:

While this update is not incorrect, I think it is rather losing the original point of the note, which was to emphasize that the procedure used when transitioning back to the AP MLD through which association was done is the same as any other SMD transition (using the existing SMD_KDK), as opposed to using the procedure that was previously performed with that AP MLD on association (deriving a new SMD_KDK)

Thanks

Thomas

The only additional change I'd make is to correct my typo. Change "ff" to "if"

That looks better.

And one more: what the note is trying to say is the SMD-KDK remains while PTK is renewed, no matter the target AP MLD has been connected or not. Suggest a massage to the text as:

NOTE --- While maintaining an association to an SMD-ME, ff a non-AP MLD performs a SMD BSS transition to a target AP MLD, the existing SMD-KDK is maintained while a new per-AP MLD PTK is derived using that SMD_KDK.

Hi Chaoming,

Thank you for your suggestion.

Please see Mikes suggestion on this topic. The text While maintaining an association to an SMD-ME at the start of the sentence will confine the past context only to be within the current SMD-ME association. Would you be fine with Mikes suggested text?

Abhi

Hi Abhi,

Would in the pastbe too broad? 1 day in the past, 1 year in the past? What if the existing SMD_KDK is derived in a different SMD?

Maybe add some restriction to the SMD_KDK helps: the new Per-AP MLD PTK is derived using the existing SMD_KDK cached for that SMD-ME as described in the previous paragraph

Chaoming

Hi TTT members for roaming,

Thomas and I discussed and came up with the following text as resolution for CID 6147. Could you please review and let us know if you have any suggestions for the proposed text:

6147

Chien-Fang Hsu

37.16.5.4

245.40

the definition of "initial AP MLD" is not clear.

define the initial AP MLD as the AP MLD that the non-AP MLD performs initial  association  to  the  SMD-ME

Abhi
