Re: [STDS-802-11-TGBN] 26/0080r4 (NPCA and STA unavailability)

Hi Shubho,

Thank you for your comments. I understand your concern.

My understanding is that the note does not introduce a new normative condition for switching to or not switching to the NPCA primary channel. The existing normative conditions remain unchanged. The note is intended only as informative text to provide additional context related to the CID comments.

Before updating the CR, I discussed this approach offline with several members. Based on those discussions, I received generally positive feedback on addressing the comments by adding an informative note rather than introducing normative text changes. That is why I removed all of the proposed normative text changes and retained only the note.

The note is not intended to enumerate all possible considerations for switching to the NPCA primary channel, nor does it modify the existing normative behavior of the specification.

Regards,

Kiseon

Hi Kiseon,

The NPCA spec already contains the following language regarding switch to the NPCA channel “An NPCA STA may switch to the NPCA primary channel for NPCA operation if the NPCA mode has been enabled for the BSS of which it is a member and either condition 1) or 2) is met:”. This provides flexibility to both the non-AP and AP to decide whether or not to switch.  So, why do you want to specify only some of the conditions? It can create confusion if one is not careful to enumerate all conditions. That is also why I am opposed to creating additional conditions for not switching at this stage.

Shubho

Hi Shubho,

Thank you for your questions. I don’t see any other possible condition regarding NPCA and STA unavailability but the condition of availability duration < NPCA minimum duration threshold that was mentioned in the submitted comments #7135, 10215.  So, I just added an example in a note to address them. Do you have any other possible conditions in your mind?

Hi Kiseon,

Thanks for your email

I am reviewing the proposal and also discussing it with others.

A question: “ NOTE—While either condition 1) or 2) above is met, an NPCA STA that has enabled DUO or PUO mode can choose not to switch to the NPCA primary channel if its availability duration is insufficient (e.g., less than the NPCA minimum duration threshold) for successful frame exchange on the NPCA primary channel due to its upcoming unavailability duration overlapping with the period indicated by the value of any MAC variable NPCA_PPDU_REM_DUR, NPCA_PHY_TXOP_REM_DUR or NPCA_CFRAME_TXOP_REM_DUR. (#4340, 4406, 6451, 6528, 7135, 8406, 10215)”.

The condition of availability duration < NPCA minimum duration threshold is cited as an example. What are the other possible conditions?

Shubho

Hi Shubho,

I have updated my CR document 26/0080r4 with some minor changes. Based on several members' feedback, I removed all normative proposed text changes and just added a note to address resolutions for 10 CIDs in the CR document.

Please let me know if you have any feedback on it. If you don’t mind, I’d like to request Alfred to add it to the MAC SP queue.

Thank you,
Kiseon
