I understand the logic as well.

However the PHY-RXEND is a signal coming from PHY to MAC:

MAC does not wait for this signal to stop the processing of the frame. MAC has full knowledge of how long the frame is and at the end of its processing - to start switch RX to TX switching (using  the padding time).

What the MAC does not have is the exact timing to do the transmission (MAC does not have the same clock as PHY), which Comes only from the PHY-RXEND.

Hope it now makes sense

The AMP Padding is intended to provide the active Tx AMP non-AP STA with sufficient transition time to prepare for the UL response transmission. This is consistent with the following passed motion:

 

Motion #213 (FM-36):

 

11bp defines padding in the DL AMP PPDU that carries the AMP frame that solicits the immediate response for the active Tx AMP non-AP STA.

 

Based on this intent, for an active Tx AMP non-AP STA receiving an AMP DL Type 1 PPDU with Padding, the Padding field is not part of its receive procedure. The STA terminates the receive procedure at the end of the AMP-Data field, and the subsequent Padding provides the transition time for preparation of the UL transmission.

 

Therefore, we believe that PHY-RXEND.indication should be issued at the end of the AMP-Data field rather than at the end of the Padding field. If PHY-RXEND.indication were issued only at the end of the Padding field, the Padding interval would no longer be available following completion of the receive procedure for preparation of the immediate response.

With regards to 11-26-1547-03-00bp-pdt-amp-receive-procedure-update-2, I have one comment.

 

For Figure 40.3.14 - 1 PHY receive procedure for AMP DL Type 1 PPDU, and also the later description:

 

Our understanding is that the primitive PHY-RXEND.indication is sent from the PHY to the MAC and should be triggered at the end of the padding and not at the end of the AMP-data.

This is since the MAC needs this indication in order to e.g. time the transmission of the response. 

It is not needed by the MAC for starting to handle the RX/TX switch. Thus the MAC has no use of this indication as it is at the location indicated on the current version.
