Re: [STDS-802-11-TGBQ] Discussion on SP in 11-26/1303r3 Related to Applying Reciprocity During the Beam Establishment Procedure

Hi Anum,

Thank you for your comments

I agree that Motion 82 provides the framework for modularized beam establishment and per-module parameter negotiation. This SP can be considered a possible next-level detail of Motion 82. In other words, Motion 82 provides a vehicle to negotiate beam establishment parameters on a per-module basis, while this SP focuses on how antenna pattern reciprocity capability may be taken into consideration when determining such parameters. For example, when multiple beam establishment modules are performed as part of a beam establishment procedure, information obtained from a previous beam establishment module may be utilized when antenna pattern reciprocity is supported. In such a case, reciprocity capability may affect the determination of beam establishment parameters, such as the number of antenna patterns. The purpose of this SP is similar to Motion 84, which provides a determination rule based on quasi-omni capability

The original SP text may have been unclear. Therefore, I revised the SP text to align more closely with Motion 84

  • Do you support to include the following text in 11bq SFD?
    • 11bq allows IMMW MLDs to indicate, during beam establishment negotiation and based on reciprocity capability, the number of Tx and/or Rx antenna patterns to be used for beam training
    • In 802.11bq, each IMMW STA determines its own Tx and Rx antenna patterns in beam establishment based on antenna pattern reciprocity capability and other beam establishment information(e.g. the result of a previous beam establishment module), and exchanges such information with its peer IMMW STA, including the number of antennas and sectors to search
    • Details are TBD

Please let me know if you have any further comments on this

Best regards,

Hongwon

Thank you Hongwon for initiating the discussion.

In order to clarify what I was trying to say, I would like to call attention also to motion 82, which says that beam training is modularized and parameters are negotiated per module (# of TX sectors, # of RX sectors etc.)

The way I was thinking about it is that in absence of reciprocity two peers may negotiate a larger number of modules, compared to the case when there is reciprocity. As such, the vehicle to take reciprocity into consideration while deciding the beam establishment parameters is already available.

Anum

Dear TG members,

Thank you for comments and questions on the SP

I would like to have some further discussion on one of the SPs discussed last CC

  • Do you support to include the following text in 11bq SFD?
    • 11bq allows IMMW MLDs to indicate, during beam establishment negotiation and based on reciprocity capability, the number of Tx and/or Rx antenna patterns to be used for beam training
      • Details are TBD

Mario and Anum mentioned that this may already be covered by several approved motions. However, my understanding is that this SP is intended as a follow-up item that adds an additional rule for determining/indicating the number of Tx and/or Rx antenna patterns based on reciprocity capability

Related approved motions include,

·       Motion 26: M and N negotiation

·       Motion 31: A set of parameters for the upcoming beam establishment

·       Motion 32: Antenna Pattern Reciprocity capability

·       Motion 84: Determination of the number of antennas/sectors to search based on quasi-omni Tx and Rx

Motions 26, 31, and 32 provide the negotiation information and reciprocity capability, while Motion 84 provides a determination rule based on quasi-omni capability

Similar to Motion 84, this SP aims to add another determination rule based on reciprocity capability. The intent is to allow the number of Tx and/or Rx antenna patterns used for beam establishment to be determined based on the negotiated reciprocity capability

Please let me know if you have any concerns, comments, or suggestions

Best Regards,

Hongwon
