[STDS-802-11] Liaison letter from WAA requesting info on PQC progress

--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Working Group Reflector ---
Dear Members,

I have received a liaison letter form the WAA regarding our work on PQC. I have posted the letter here:

I ask that TGbt take a look and produce a draft response for the working group to consider at our Friday closing plenary.

I've copied the content here for your convenience:

Dear Robert Stacey, the Chair of IEEE 802.11 WG,

WAA (World WLAN Application Alliance) is an international standards & industry alliance dedicated to developing scenario-based WLAN performance test and certification system, with the core mission and objective to promote the sustainable development of the WLAN industry by optimizing end-to-end wireless network application experience.

The WAA Security Study Group is actively tracking the progress of post-quantum cryptography (PQC) initiatives and is scheduled to release a dedicated PQC study report in October 2026. WAA highly appreciates that the IEEE 802.11 Working Group has set up a PQC Task Group to advance the formulation and refinement of PQC technical specifications for wireless standards.

To foster deeper collaboration with the IEEE 802.11 Working Group, particularly in the PQC domain, WAA respectfully requests the group to share or circulate the latest progress updates on its ongoing PQC projects. Specifically, we would greatly appreciate details on the current draft version, core technical characteristics, as well as the projected timeline for draft finalization and official balloting. These timely updates will allow WAA to better calibrate and advance our internal PQC research and analytical work.

WAA remains committed to long-term, mutually beneficial collaboration and welcomes continuous technical exchanges with the IEEE 802.11 Working Group. We also encourage IEEE 802.11 security experts to participate in meetings organized by the WAA Security Study Group. Upon finalization of our PQC research report, WAA will be pleased to share it with the IEEE 802.11 Working Group upon request. Should further information regarding WAA’s activities and research initiatives be required, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

Mr. He Yang
Secretary-General of WAA
