Subject: [STDS-802-11] Ofcom publishes statement on 6 GHz band Wi-Fi operation

--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Working Group Reflector ---

Dear 802.18 participants,

[CC: 802.11/15/19 participants]

For your information: Ofcom published its statement on “Expanding access to the 6 GHz band for commercial mobile and Wi-Fi services”. (https://www.ofcom.org.uk/spectrum/innovative-use-of-spectrum/consultation-expanding-access-to-the-6-ghz-band-for-commercial-mobile-and-wi-fi-services). With this statement, Ofcom implements the following decisions:

  • Wi-Fi priority portion in lower 160 MHz of the upper 6 GHz band, i.e. from 6425-6585 MHz. This portion will allow VLP, LPI and SP (under AFC) operation under the same license-exempt basis as the lower 6 GHz band.
  • Upper 540 MHz, i.e. 6585-7125 MHz are designated as mobile priority portion. However Wi-Fi can operate in AFC controlled SP mode in this portion of spectrum.

Regards,

Gaurav
