IEEE 802.16 Logo

IEEE 802.16's Session #98 was held on 13-16 July 2015, Waikoloa, HI, USA. This Working Group (WG) plenary session was co-located with the IEEE 802 Plenary. The attendance list is posted.

Narrowband Ad Hoc Committee and GRIDMAN Task Group

Further discussions were held toward initiation of a new project specifying operation of existing IEEE Std 802.16 systems in narrower channel allocations. As a result, a Call for Contributions was issued on Narrower Channel Operation, with inputs to be addressed to 802.16's longstanding GRIDMAN Task Group. Contributions of technical requirements underlying the project and those expressing interest in such a standard are also invited. The intention is to complete a draft project authorization request by 9 October 2015. Teleconferences on 13 August, 10 September, and 1 October were scheduled.

Project P802.16.3: Mobile Broadband Network Performance Measurements

Project P802.16.3 met and discussed a liaison communication to the IETF LMAP Working Group. The project will continue to meet during upcoming teleconferences. However, the Working Group agreed to schedule a request for the withdrawal of the P802.16.3 PAR on the 13 November 2015 agenda of the IEEE 802 Executive Committee.

Project P802.16r: Small Cell Backhaul with Carrier Ethernet

The IEEE-SA Standards Board approved the WG's request for the withdrawal of Project P802.16r. The project was withdrawn on 11 June 2015.

High-Rate Rail Communications

The IEEE 802.16 Working Group continues to co-sponsor the High Rate Rail Communications (HRRC) Interest Group of the IEEE 802.15 Working Group. The HRRC IG considered further contributions. It will continue to meet in conjunction with future 802.15 sessions.

About IEEE 802.16
The IEEE 802.16 Working Group on Broadband Wireless Access Standards has developed and is enhancing the WirelessMAN® standards of IEEE 802.16 and 802.16.1 for wireless metropolitan area networks. It is also developing the IEEE 802.16.3 project on Mobile Broadband Network Performance Measurements. The IEEE 802.16 Working Group is a unit of the IEEE 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee, the premier transnational forum for wired and wireless network standardization. A list of IEEE 802.16 standards and drafts is available on-line, as is an archive of previous Session Reports. The IEEE 802.16 Interactive Calendar includes sessions and deadlines.

"802.16 News" Mailing List
The "802.16 News" mailing list ("stds-802-16-news") has the sole purpose of distributing major announcements related to the Working Group. Those interested in following the progress of the group but not in the day-to-day details may wish to subscribe. Only the Working Group Chair is eligible to post to the list, and mailings will be rare: once after each bimonthly session and additionally for major news, such as the approval of a new standard. Those subscribing to the stds-802-16 mailing list, for active Working Group participants, need not subscribe to stds-802-16-news since the postings will be redundant.
