Dear Task Force Participants,

With this e-mail, I'd like to announce the start of the IEEE P802.3by/D2.0 25 Gb/s Ethernet Working Group initial ballot.

Open date: Saturday 18th July 2015

Close date: Sunday 16th August 2015 23:59 AOE

As stated in the announcement below, the ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Friday 17th July 2015. All comments received before the close of ballot will be considered, the one limitation however is that if you are not a member of the balloting group, and therefore cannot cast a ballot, you cannot designate comments as TR or ER since you cannot cast a Disapprove ballot.

Best regards,

Mark Nowell

Dear Colleagues,

This is the announcement of the electronic IEEE 802.3 Working Group Initial ballot on the amendment IEEE P802.3by 25 Gb/s Ethernet. Remember that voting, as well as attendance, is a requirement to maintain your IEEE 802.3 member (voter) status. Instructions for accessing the draft, casting your ballot and submitting comments follow this announcement. The ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Friday 17th July 2015.

BALLOT SCOPE:

As a Working Group initial ballot, the scope of the ballot is the complete IEEE P802.3by draft.

FIVE CRITERIA:

One of the responsibilities as a balloter is to ensure that draft is consistent with the 5 Criteria responses which are available at <http://ieee802.org/3/by/P802_3by_CSD.pdf>. An Approve vote indicates your agreement that the draft is consistent with the 5 Criteria responses.

BALLOT OPEN:

Saturday 18th July 2015

BALLOT CLOSE:

Sunday 16th August 2015 23:59 AOE

The Project Authorization Request for this Amendment is available at <http://ieee802.org/3/by/P802_3by_PAR_approved_121214.pdf> and includes the following:

TITLE:

Standard for Ethernet Amendment: Media Access Control Parameters, Physical Layers and Management Parameters for 25 Gb/s Operation

SCOPE OF PROJECT:

This amendment defines Ethernet Media Access Control (MAC) parameters, physical layer specifications, and management parameters for the transfer of Ethernet format frames at 25 Gb/s for server to switch interconnections

NEED FOR THE PROJECT:

There is a need for greater than 10 Gb/s Ethernet connectivity for server to switch connections. The availability of 25 Gb/s signaling technologies enables interconnect solutions for server to switch applications to be developed which are lower cost than existing 40 Gb/s Ethernet solutions

Thank you for your participation in this ballot and careful review of the draft.
