All,

As announced, there is another electronic interim meeting for the Study Group on Monday, 18 Jan 2021, from 10am to noon, ET, which will be part of the IEEE 802.3 Jan 2021 Interim Meeting.  Please see the 802.3 calendar for access information, http://www.ieee802.org/3/calendar.html

The announced agenda for this call will be, as announced previously:

The agenda for the meeting will focus on project documentation to address potential objectives.  Presentation requests will not be considered for this meeting, and presentations to address the agenda will be solicited by the Chair.  This is a continuation of the level setting discussions that will take place at the Jan 14 SG Meeting.

There will be two presentations –

  1. Objectives – Past / Future and Their Form – John D’Ambrosia
  2. Thoughts on the Beyond 400 GbE Study Group – Mark Nowell, Dave Ofelt

This meeting was added to enable further discussion for the Study Group and will help potential individuals work towards meeting the requirements to become an 802.3 voter.  IEEE 802.3 Requirements for WG Voting Membership may be found at https://www.ieee802.org/3/rules/member.html.

For the IEEE 802.3 January Interim Meeting, the IEEE 802.3 WG Chair announced the following (URL - https://www.ieee802.org/3/email_dialog/msg01133.html):

The rules do not provide for attendance credit toward membership for an electronic interim however the IEEE 802 Working Group P&P say that 'Membership may be declared at the discretion of the Working Group Chair (e.g., for contributors by correspondence or other significant contributions to the Working Group).'. We require a minimum of three days at a face-to-face plenary, but a minimum of two days at a face-to-face interim meeting series as it is a series of two-day or three-day subgroup interim meetings. Based on this rule, and applying the that same ratio, I'll grant meeting credit for any individual that attend a meeting on four of the eight meeting days of the January 2021 IEEE 802.3 interim series.

Please note that all participants should review the following documents prior to any meeting:

·                 IEEE SA PRE-PAR patent policy

·                 IEEE SA Copyright Policy

·                 IEEE SA Participation Policy

All of these policies may be found at http://ieee802.org/3/policies.html.

Regards

John D’Ambrosia

Chair, IEEE 802.3 Beyond 400 Gb/s Ethernet Study Group
