[802.3_B400G] MMSE-based Equalizer Optimization for TDECQ

Dear IEEE P802.3dj Task Force participants,

This is another attempt to send the email below from Norm with its attachments. If this fails to work (as it has so far for Norm and John), please see the test message I sent earlier, which has the attachments at <https://www.ieee802.org/3/B400G/email/msg01925.html>. My apologies for the additional emails this has caused. I'm not sure what is happening and will reach out to the IEEE ListServ Postmaster for help.

Best regards,
  David

Subject: MMSE-based Equalizer Optimization for TDECQ

**RESEND** Files did not attach last time.

Attached please find two memos I wrote to describe MMSE tap optimization in
support of IEEE 802.3dj Draft 3.1 TDECQ calculation.

Filename: DFE Derivation Rev 1.1.pdf
Document title: MMSE Calculation of Reference Equalizer Taps for TDECQ
Date: Revised 7 July 2026

This document describes MMSE optimization of the equalizer taps. This
reflects unconstrained optimization of the taps, so the constraints of Table
180-16 are not imposed. An earlier version of this document was posted in
the meeting materials for the June 24th, 2026 Optical Ad Hoc at this
location:
https://www.ieee802.org/3/dj/public/adhoc/optics/0626_OPTX/swenson_3dj_adhoc
_02_260624.pdf . This version of the document corrects a numerical error
found in that version; the error appeared in the numerical values for the
autocorrelation matrix description in equation (18). My thanks to Hansel
D'Silva for validating the matrix and pointing out the error to me.

Filename: BT_filter_autocorrelation_matrix Rev. 1.2.pdf
Document title: Analytical Derivation: Noise Autocorrelation of a 4-Pole
Bessel-Thomson Filter
Date: Revised 6 July 2026

This document provides an analytic derivation of the autocorrelation
function of noise at the output of the BT filter. This version has numeric
values that reflect the same correction noted above (thank you, Hansel!)

I welcome comments, questions, and corrections.

Thank you,
Norm
