Re: [802.3_ISAAC] Guidance on use of trademarks in contributions to IEEE standards development

Dear Working Group Chair,

Thank you sending this. Very helpful and timely. Your guidance of contacting the SA IPR is understood. I have a couple of quick clarification questions that would benefit the entire group. Hence, sending to the reflector.

The document states –

Participants should make every effort to alert the Working Group Chair of any incorrectly used trademarks or modified trademarks in Contributions prior to the start of the meeting if Contributions to the meeting are made available beforehand.

  1. Should participants 1st contact WG Chair and then contact SA IPR?
  2. The document addresses “Contributions”. What about “unapproved meeting minutes”. Do the same guidelines apply to them?

Regards
Kamal

CAUTION: This email is from an external origin!

Dear IEEE P802.3dm participants,

Further to questions raised at the May 2025 IEEE 802.3 Interim meeting regarding Trademarks, the IEEE SA has recently published 'Guidance on Use of Trademarks in Contributions to IEEE standards development' available at <https://standards.ieee.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/trademark-guidelines-for-contributions.pdf>. As noted in FAQ 2, since the use of a trademark or modified trademark has been identified, the IEEE SA IPR Staff is now working with me to determine the appropriate steps, but nothing has changed until I hear otherwise from IEEE SA IPR.

Please remember that the purpose of an IEEE 802.3 Task Force is the development of a draft. While there may be administrative or procedural items in IEEE 802.3 Task Force meetings or on an IEEE 802.3 Task Force email reflector, the purpose of the meetings and email reflector is to address the development of the technical content of the draft. As a result, if you have any questions or comments regarding these guidelines, please direct them to IEEE SA IPR at <stds-copyright@xxxxxxxx>.

Thanks, and best regards,
  David
