Re: [802.3_ITSA] offline convergence on deferred IEEE P802.3cx comments

P802.3cx participants:

The proposed solutions for comments #135 and #177 (and related comments #137 and #181) are given in the attached presentation.

We will go over these proposed solutions at tomorrow’s P802.3cx meeting.

Regards,

Rich

Subject: offline convergence on deferred IEEE P802.3cx comments

P802.3cx participants:

At today’s P802.3cx teleconference, the resolutions to a couple of comments were deferred, as described below:

  • For comments #135 and #177 (and comments #137 and #181, which are identical but for a different subclause):
    • Find a suitable modification of and location for the following statements, which suggest what to do for inter-chip interfaces, where the TX/RX_num_unit_change signals are not available.
      • “TX_num_unit_change is not available over physical interfaces such as instantiated xMII or AUI. In order to achieve high accuracy timestamping, it is recommended to avoid AM insertion, CWM insertion, and Idle insertion/removal in sublayers lower than these interfaces.”
      • ”RX_num_unit_change is not available over physical interfaces such as instantiated xMII or AUI. In order to achieve high accuracy timestamping, it is recommended to avoid AM insertion, CWM insertion, and Idle insertion/removal in sublayers lower than these interfaces.”

I would like to start an email discussion on this so we can have a solution before the next comment resolution meeting on Nov 24, 2021.  My intent is to start this email discussion on Monday, Nov 15, 2021.  If you would like to participate, please reply to me before Monday, Nov 15, 2021 (Pacific Time).  I believe this discussion will be short and not-too-burdensome.
