[802.3_SPEP2P] Update - work to do, prep for July 9, website updated with to-dos and proposal

All – Please take a moment to look at two files I have posted to the website for our July 9 telephonic interim.  (https://www.ieee802.org/3/dg/public/May_2025/index.htm)

There is a spreadsheet (draft to-do’s)

indicating what I believe are the items we need to fill in to be ready for initial working group ballot.  We need to complete these at our July 9 meeting in order to presubmit for ballot (or agree that some aren’t needed).  In my opinion, closing technical completeness with “good enough” should be our focus.  We can refine text or numbers in ballot.  Remember – it takes exactly the same level of consensus to adopt text now as it does to adopt it as a ballot comment response (and sometimes it’s easier as a comment response, since you may get help from the working group).

There is also a detailed text proposal for the PMA electrical specifications.  This is drawn from the following sources:

  • Curran_3dg_04_05132025.pdf, which lists the test modes
  • 10BASE-T1L, with frequency scaling and level scaling (80 MBd vs. 7.5 MBd, and 2.0 Vpp vs. 2.4 Vpp (for increased transmit amplitude) on 100BASE-T1L vs 10BASE-T1L)
  • Comments on 802.3da
  • Consideration that the EMC tests are generally application specific and vary by environment, and that DPI, primarily an automotive test, isn’t appropriate to highlight for these applications.

We still need work on the MDI specs (especially return loss) and the delay specifications.  Also consider whether we should drop the note about a ‘functional block diagram) (Fig 190-2, similar to Fig 149-2).  Clause 146 does NOT have one, and the figure itself is kind of a redundant (and complex) inclusion of the more hierarchical Fig 190-3, 190-4 (PCS reference diagram), and 190-17 (PMA reference diagram)s.

Additionally, please review d1p1’s editor’s notes as I expect we will consider deleting each one prior to initial WG  ballot.

Please use the reflector, but also send me a heads up for any proposals to consider on the 9th.  This is an important meeting for us to get back on track schedule-wise.
