[802.3_SPEP2P] IEEE P802.3dg/D2.0 100 Mb/s Long-Reach Single Pair Ethernet Working Group initial ballot

Dear Task Force Participants,

With this email, I'd like to announce the start of the IEEE P802.3dg/D2.0 100 Mb/s Long-Reach Single Pair Ethernet Working Group initial ballot.

Open date: Friday 1st August 2025

Close date: Sunday 31st August 2025 AOE (23:59 UTC -12)

As stated in the announcement below, the ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Friday, 1st August 2025. All comments received before the close of the ballot will be considered. The one limitation, however, is that if you are not a member of the balloting group, and therefore cannot cast a ballot, you cannot designate comments as TR or ER since you cannot cast a Disapprove ballot.

Best regards,

George Zimmerman

Chair, IEEE P802.3dg 100 Mb/s Long-Reach Single Pair Ethernet Task Force

-----

Dear Colleagues,

This is the announcement of the electronic IEEE 802.3 Working Group initial ballot on the Amendment IEEE P802.3dg 100 Mb/s Long-Reach Single Pair Ethernet. Remember that voting, as well as attendance, is a requirement to maintain your IEEE 802.3 member (voter) status <http://ieee802.org/3/rules/member.html#DOT3>. Instructions for accessing the draft, casting your ballot and submitting comments follow this announcement. Please review the commenting instructions below to ensure you are using the most up to date tools.

The ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Friday 1st August 2025.

BALLOT SCOPE:

As a Working Group initial ballot, the scope of the ballot is the complete IEEE P802.3dg draft.

CRITERIA FOR STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT:

One of the responsibilities as a balloter is to ensure that the draft is consistent with the criteria for standards development (CSD) responses which are available at <https://mentor.ieee.org/802-ec/dcn/22/ec-22-0086-00-ACSD-p802-3dg.pdf>. An Approve vote indicates your agreement that the draft is consistent with the CSD responses.

BALLOT OPEN:

Friday 1st August 2025

BALLOT CLOSE:

Sunday 31st August 2025 23:59 AOE

The Project Authorization Request for this Amendment is available at <https://www.ieee802.org/3/dg/P802d3dg_PAR.pdf> and includes the following:

TITLE:

Standard for Ethernet Amendment: Physical Layer Specifications and Management Parameters for 100 Mb/s Operation and Associated Power Delivery over a Single Balanced Pair of Conductors

SCOPE OF PROJECT:

This project will specify additions to and appropriate modifications of IEEE Std 802.3 to add 100 Mb/s Physical Layer specifications and management parameters for operation, and associated optional provision of power, using a single balanced pair of conductors.

NEED FOR THE PROJECT:

Applications such as those used in automation and process control industries have begun the transition of legacy networks to Ethernet. A reduced number of conductors and interface components supporting greater than 10 Mb/s Ethernet will provide a basis for an optimized solution in these applications. Growth in traffic and new applications demand greater bandwidth. IEEE Std 802.3 does not currently support greater than 10 Mb/s over a single balanced pair of conductors longer than 40 m.

Thank you for your participation in this ballot and careful review of the draft.
