[802.3_SPMD] Question and Clarification Regarding Clause 148, Figure 148–4 — PLCA Control State Diagram

Hi all,

We have a question regarding Clause 148, Figure 148–4 — the PLCA Control State Diagram.

Once PLCA is enabled, when local_nodeID != 0 and CRS is set, the diagram shows a transition from RESYNC to EARLY_RECEIVE. While in the EARLY_RECEIVE state, the condition (!CRS*beacon_det_timer_not_done) causes a transition from EARLY_RECEIVE to SYNCING.

Could you kindly clarify the use case or scenario for which this condition (!CRS*beacon_det_timer_not_done) was added to trigger the transition from EARLY_RECEIVE to SYNCING?

Additionally, I would appreciate it if you could confirm whether my understanding below is correct:

Once PLCA is enabled, the follower node enters the RESYNC state, then transitions to EARLY_RECEIVE due to the presence of any signal on the medium compatible with the DME encoding rules specified in Clause 147.4.2. If the activity on the medium lasts less than the beacon_det_timer, PLCA transitions to SYNCING and sets plca_active to true. This means that any DME-compatible activities shorter than  beacon_det_timer (even if unrelated to BEACON) could potentially activate the PLCA on the follower node.

If this understanding is accurate, are there any potential risks associated with this behavior?

We appreciate your help and clarifications regarding the above two questions.

Best Regards,

Yawen GUO
