Re: [802.3_NGECDC] 10BASE-T1S Differentiated Services and Nendica

Dear Peter, dear all!

I am a supporter of the CFI for exactly the reason, that I want the discussion on solutions for the issue of
"The current set of 802.1 and 802.3 tools do not provide sufficient control over the selection of the next frame to be transmitted on the shared media." (love that wording!)
to have a forum.

When Markus and Yong started a debate on a solution, they were told to start with a problem statement, not with a solution. Now Peter comes around with this very good problem statement along with a different angle to the solution.

I think we need to agree what we are working on first: Problem Statement or Solution?
Going back and forth between the two does not seem the best way. My understanding was, a CFI is needed to talk about real solutions, so I pushed for that.

On a side note, I am reminded of the CAN arbitration issue, e.g. described in:
kentindell.github.io/2020/06/29/can-priority-inversion/
and I was about to ask in this weeks NEA call, how/if people had compared the topics.

Needed to get that of my chest ;)

Best

Max

(+NENDICA)

Folks,

As those on the 802.3 NEA call on May 21st will have heard, I have significant concerns about the current CFI deck for 10BASE-T1S Differentiated Services.

I have been discussing this with various individuals for several months, and I’d like to get my view of this out for people to consider.

I’ve put together a writeup on this (attached) and I plan to present on this in the near future. Since it involves both 802.l and 802.3, I think IEEE 802 Nendica is the appropriate forum. I will work with Johannes and 802.3 NEA leadership to figure out the appropriate schedule (maybe a joint call?).

Regards,

Peter

Subject: [802.3_NGECDC] 10BASE-T1S Differentiated Services and Nendica

Dear Colleagues,

Thank you for the discussions during yesterday's IEEE 802.3 NEA Ad-hoc meeting.
Please find the link to my past presentation in IEEE 802 Nendica I mentioned at the following link:
https://mentor.ieee.org/802.1/dcn/26/1-26-0014-01-ICne-qos-on-ieee-802-3-10base-t1s-ieee-802-1-aspects.pdf

I'd be happy to present in an IEEE 802.3 NEA ad-hoc Meeting if there is interest.
Note that I plan for a follow-up presentation in IEEE 802 Nendica during the IEEE 802 July 2026 plenary session.

Best regards,
Johannes
