[802.3_YANG] 802.3 YANG OS Ad Hoc Post Plenary Updates

Folks,

I’ve updated the YANG Public area including the draft minutes. I added some “post meeting” notes into the minutes to cover activities after our meeting finished on Monday.

The big news is that we were approved by both 802.3 and the LMSC to file the OS project request. I’m requesting an informal review from one of the OSCom staff before I submit the formal request. I’ll post updates as they happen.

I’m not planning to formally meet during 802.3 interim meetings (e.g., week on January 19th in Austin), only during 802 plenaries. I expect to start regular conference calls for this project in the new year.  Keep an eye out for a survey to see what range of time zones potential contributors are located in.

I’d like suggestions of targets for outreach once we get up and going. IETF netmod seems like an obvious target, but I’m sure there are other groups we could use to reach potential participants.

We will be using the BSD 3-Clause CLA. My reading of this is that most people (unless you are participating purely on your own dime) will need to get an “entity” CLA signed by their affiliate.  These are the 4 variants:

IEEE Entity CLA for BSD-3 License

IEEE Entity CLA for BSD-3 with Public Domain Appendix

IEEE Individual CLA for BSD-3 License

IEEE Individual CLA for BSD-3 with Public Domain Appendix

Based on my experience, it can take a little while for corporate legal departments to get their heads around these documents. If you have previously contributed to the 802.3 YANG work or intend to contribute to this OS project in the future, I suggest you start the conversation earlier rather than later.

Regards,

Peter
