Re: [802.3_B400G_OPTX] [P802.3df OPTX] Reminder: Presentation request deadline is Monday

Fixing the subject line on my earlier email.  I’d moved the deadline to Monday and forgot to change the subject line to match what I said in the email.

Thanks,Mark

Subject: [P802.3df OPTX] Reminder: Presentation request deadline is tomorrow

Hi,

A reminder about Monday’s deadline for presentation requests for next Thursday’s 802.3df optics ad hoc.  See details below.  Please send requests to me.

As a reminder where we are, here is the summary that John and I pulled together after the March meetings (which wasn’t presented due to lack of time).  The full presentation is posted here: https://www.ieee802.org/3/df/public/22_03/nowell_3df_01_220329.pdf and the optics-specific observations (intended to motivate contributions) were:

Observations: Optical

  • Low-hanging-fruit decisions made (100 Gb/s based SMF & MMF PMD baselines)
  • PAM4 modulation will be the basis for 200 Gb/s per lane based optical (500m & 2km SMF) baselines
  • 800 Gb/s 10 km and 40 km - good technical contributions
    • Debate between direct detect vs coherent modulation choice

  • No detailed technical contributions towards 500 m and 2 km objectives
  • FEC discussions require some inputs on requirements from optical PMDs
    • 100 Gb/s based is known
    • Requirements from 200 Gb/s based optical PMDs are needed
  • Ad hoc might be good time to sort through SMF nomenclature topic
    • Preview: We have 2 km parallel fiber objectives. Which takes priority “D” = parallel fiber or “F” = 2 km?
  • More contributions needed for April ad hocs

Regards,Mark

Subject: [802.3_B400G_OPTX] Update on P802.3df Optics ad hoc meetings in April

Hi,

I’ve just updated one of the dates for the P802.3df optics ad hoc meetings in April.  The 2nd meeting has been changed and is now on Thurs April 28th in order to avoid a conflict with the P802.3ck Task Force meeting on the previous day.

The two meetings are:

  1. Thurs April 14th, 2022 @ 7-9am PT
  2. Thurs April 28th, 2022 @ 7-9am PT (new date)

I’ve recently refreshed the Webex invitations for both meeting and resent them to the OPTX reflector to make sure that any new subscribers have the invitations.  The meeting information is also always available on the IEEE 802.3 calendar: https://www.ieee802.org/3/calendar.html

The deadlines for requests for these meetings are EOD Monday April 11th, and Monday April 25th respectively.

The scope of these meetings is to further the discussion and consensus building around technical proposals related to the optics aspects of P802.3df.  As an ad hoc, no decisions (i.e. motions) will be made but it is possible to conduct straw polls to test the group’s consensus on certain topics.

Regards,Mark
