Re: [802.3_DIALOG] Hugh Barrass

Mark,

Thank you for sharing this truly sad news.

For some of you the following may sound like a line at the start of a joke:
"A Irishman, a Scot, an American and a Canadian walk into a bar..."

But, I also know that for many of those that knew Hugh, you'd recognize it as describing those times after the meetings where we got to share stories, talk tech, laugh and enjoy each others' company. Hugh was a presence... full of interesting life stories and quick with a laugh. I will miss him greatly.

And, whenever my pint ends up being empty, I plan to blame it on the ghost of Hugh... because I know that wherever he is, he'd enjoy the humor in that.

Sincerely,
Brad

To friends and colleagues who worked with Hugh Barrass,

It is with the greatest sadness that I have to tell you that Hugh Barrass passed away suddenly last night.  I can’t even attempt to do justice to the level of contribution and impact Hugh has had on the industry through his work in the IEEE standards and beyond.  Hugh’s great humor, insights, knowledge and friendship will be sorely missed by many.

At this time, I do not have any information on any funeral or memorial arrangements but I will forward on details when I know more.  Feel free to reach out to me (mnowell@xxxxxxxxx) if you have any questions.

We will try to gather somehow at next month’s meeting and have a celebration of Hugh’s life.   I know many will want to share remembrances and thoughts,  could you please direct them to the DIALOG reflector only. I think these are archived.

With much sadness,

Mark
