Attached is the spreadsheet that I presented on the MMP Ad Hoc today. A few
comments on this for folks not on the call:
This spreadsheet is meant to be a tool for the Task Force to help evaluate
the gains that can be seen for using Multiple Modulation Profiles compared
to a Single Profile system. It attempts to include all factors that impact
MMP discussed to date. This includes traffic distribution across profiles,
shortened codeword, multicast/broadcast traffic on the LCD profile, and
impacts of micro-reflections on different profiles. It will continue to be
updated as we identify other factors.
The MMP Efficiency tool is on the first tab. To demonstrate its
capabilities, I ran a number of scenarios and saved these on the other
tabs. I tried to change only one variable as you move from tab to tab. For
this example, I used one of Dave Urban's early modem distribution:
Profile Unicast Traffic Distribution Modulation Avg Bits/Hz to MAC D
9.0% 4096 10.40 C 64.0% 2048 9.53 B 24.5% 1028 8.67 A, LCD 2.5% 256 or
512 6.93 or 7.80
Using this distribution, a summary of the results are:
Example Results: MMP Gain MMP Capacity Single Profile Capacity
(LCD) 256-QAM
LCD 32.3% 1697 1283 Mbps 512-QAM LCD 18.1% 1704 1443 Mbps 1024-QAM LCD
6.6% 1709 1603 Mbps 512-QAM LCD + Multicast 14.7% 1655 1443 Mbps +
Micro-reflection impacts 10.3% 1591 1443 Mbps 48MHz channel 5.7% 355 335
Mbps
This example shows that the gains for this distribution can vary from 32.3%
down to 5.7% depending on inputs. It is up to the group to determine a
valid set of inputs we should use for our analysis. Note - I do not endorse
or advocate any of these inputs. This is just a common tool for the group to
use to provide the MMP capacities and gain.
Note that I added comments to a # of the cells to help explain how they are
used. Let me know if you have any questions or find issues with the
spreadsheet.
