[802-LMSC] IEEE 802 LMSC History Ad Hoc report for November 2025

Dear LMSC,

I will not be attending the upcoming November plenary session in person, hence there will not be an LMSC History Ad Hoc meeting. Therefore, I'm supplying this report in lieu of our usual Tuesday lunch ad hoc meeting during the plenary week.  James and Beth, I'll be happy to give a five minute verbal update at the opening or closing LMSC meeting -- your choice.

Recently, I have been in communication with Amanda Wick, the curator of the Charles Babbage Institute Archives (CBIA).  She and CBIA are excited to work with the LMSC ad hoc to begin receiving and curating LMSC's original documents (in any form) they may be in, as well as hosting aural histories and supplemental historical information.  Attached is a brief summary of CBIA and the Deed of Gift agreements donors need to supply.

Since 802 LMSC's historic documents are widely dispersed among the thousands of participants over the past 45 years, it will not be easy to identify the who currently has material to donate, and to begin process of transferring the material to CBIA, which will largely be at the donors expense.  At least we have location identified with a very interested and eager supported at CBIA.

I will arrange for a LMSC History Ad Hoc teleconference after the November plenary session, most likely in mid December, where I hope I can structure the discovery/donation process and identify volunteers, staff and funding to support the effort.  I am hoping to get support from the Computer Society, the IEEE Board of Directors and the Standards Association, as well as some precious time from our highly valued volunteers.  Safe travels to everyone heading to Bangkok, I will be there in spirit, if not in body.

Best Regards,

--Paul
