[802-LMSC] Fee waivers
Dear IEEE 802 LMSC,
As you may recall from Monday, I granted two individuals fee waivers under Clause 5 of the IEEE 802 LMSC Operations Manual for each of the two March 2026 IEEE 802.3 Call for Interest (CFI) consensus-building meetings yesterday evening (a total of four individuals). I also granted a Clause 5 fee waiver for one individual to serve only as an IEEE P802.3dj Task Force editor, and five individuals only to attend to receive an award <https://www.ieee802.org/email/stds-802-lmsc/msg00889.html>.
Subsequently, an individual asked whether anyone I had granted a fee waiver to would be attending in person. I replied that I did not believe that was the case, but CCed the IEEE 802.3 CFI leaders for confirmation regarding the individuals attending their meetings. I confess I did not pay attention to the replies, and both CFI leaders said that one of the two individuals granted a fee waiver for their meetings would attend in person.
Another individual brought this to my attention just before the first CFI consensus-building meeting, and noted that in-person attendance was not supported by Clause 5 since it reads 'The Working Group Chair may designate specific individual experts who are allowed to participate in Working Group discussions via electronic means during an in-person meeting for the benefit of the group.'.
I want to emphasise that the in-person attendance of these two individuals under Clause 5 was my sole responsibility, and thus my error, and my error alone. I will therefore request a consent agenda item to grant an IEEE 802 LMSC fee waiver (IEEE 802 LMSC Working Group P&P, subclause 6.3) for all individuals for whom I previously granted a Clause 5 fee waiver.
Best regards,
David
