Re: Draft Press Release for Ballot

Title: RE: Draft Press Release for Ballot
I vote yes with one editorial comment for consideration.

I am not advocating that we do or do not add "Carriers" to the press release.  I would ask those more familiar with our likely customer base to consider what the press will consider to be the important area of play for RPR.  If their point of view is that this is a technology that will gain widest acceptance amongst carriers, than we should play that trump card.  If you believe that they will not be, or should not be focused on RPR as a technology for carriers, then we should probably leave the word out.

Raj, my primary concern is that if the press release is too generic we will miss the opportunityh of focusing the press on RPR's real value, and we will get less mileage out of the release.

I vote yes in either case, and am willing to leave it open to Mike to use whatever process he wants in deciding if the word goes in.

Nader,

The essence of the press release states that
vendors (System, chips, SW etc..) and users (ISp, carriers,
Cable operators, etc) embrace the standards activties.

I think we should state it as that and as generic as
possible. I am pretty sure even the most exhaustive
enumeration of all suppliers and users will have the
potential to have missed a specific industry or two.

My suggestion is that either we leave it as it is
or we change it simply to say "vendors and users".

Friendly amendment. Can we add the word "Carriers" to the first paragraph,
before the ISPs. I believe Sprint and MCI are categorized as carriers.

People,

here is the draft press release based on all comments
received to Friday Nov 17, 2000 @ 9:02pm EST which is
about 1 week of futzing. No further comments will
be considered at this point.

The vote is to approve the press release and to
forward it to the 802 SEC for ballot and forwarding
to the IEEE marketing office.

I will stop accepting ballots on Friday Nov 24, 2000
@ 9:00pm EST.

If you wish to vote on this you may email the reflector
or to me.

To keep things simple I will accept votes of Yes or No,
I have no idea of how many people are just lurking so
I am interested in those who have a definite opinion.

As I view this as administrative a simple majority of
votes will pass the motion.

cheers,

mike
