My name is Robert D. Love. As I have previously announced
to the Working Group, I am seeking the office of IEEE 802.17 Vice Chair.
I have been active in IEEE 802 since 1982. During that time I have served as a technical expert, task force leader, document editor, Vice Chair, and Working Group Chair. I am currently a member of the IEEE 802 SEC. The IEEE has recognized my contributions to standards development, awarding me the IEEE Standards Medallion for “Outstanding Achievement Through Standards” in 1998. I have been participating in the Resilient Packet Ring study group since August. During that time I have worked closely with Mike Takefman planning our meetings. Specifically I helped Mike in the planning and execution of our highly successful strategy for dealing with the strenuous objections to our formation that came from other working groups. Having been through every step of the standards development process many times, I am able to bring my experience to bear in developing and executing our plans to help us avoid many of the pitfalls and delays that too often impede the creation and publishing of a new standard. My leadership style is expressed in “Winning Through Standards Development” which I presented at both the August, and January meetings. I believe deeply in a win-win philosophy, working together to create and standardize a superior technology in a timely manner, and reaping the rewards of an accepting market. For those of you that have observed my leadership style based on my participation in IEEE 802.3, IEEE 802.5, the RPR Study Group, and our January 802.17 meeting, I will continue as you have seen, working diligently and optimistically to solve problems, to bring competing interests together to find common ground, and to advance our common interests, in an even-handed manner. I ask for your vote to allow me to serve as your IEEE 802.17
Vice Chair. Thank you. Best regards,
Robert D. Love
