I can think of following reasons:
. lack of spatial reuse property - most important
. existence of master station (e.g., slot generator) - DQDB
. slotted nature needing fragmentation - DQDB
. token ring is limited to LAN
I believe the buffer-insertion ring SCI was also investigated
in RPRSG. What was the recommendation on SCI?

I am curious as to what is exactly wrong with the MACs of other
ring based systems especially DQDB and token ring. Either one is
well studied and should be a good starting point for RPR.
