Dear Colleagues,

This is the announcement of the electronic IEEE 802.3 Working Group 3rd recirculation ballot of the amendment IEEE P802.3cz Multi-Gigabit Optical Automotive Ethernet. Remember that voting, as well as attendance, is a requirement to maintain your IEEE 802.3 member (voter) status <http://ieee802.org/3/rules/member.html#DOT3>. Instructions for accessing the draft, casting your ballot and submitting comments follow this announcement. Please review the commenting instructions below to ensure you are using the most up to date tools.

The ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Wednesday 23 March 2022.

Because this is a recirculation ballot, YOU ONLY NEED TO CAST A BALLOT IF YOU WISH TO CHANGE YOUR VOTE FROM THAT WHICH WAS RECORDED ON THE INITIAL BALLOT OR LAST RECIRCULATION. If you voted previously and your vote has not changed, the last ballot cast will be carried over to this ballot and you do not need to cast a new ballot.

BALLOT SCOPE:
During this IEEE 802.3 Working Group 3rd recirculation ballot, the scope of the ballot is the substantive changes between IEEE P802.3cz/D2.2 and IEEE P802.3cz/D2.3 and the unsatisfied negative comments.

CRITERIA FOR STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT:
One of the responsibilities as a balloter is to ensure that draft is consistent with the criteria for standards development (CSD) responses which are available at <https://mentor.ieee.org/802-ec/dcn/20/ec-20-0095-00-ACSD-p802-3cz.pdf>. An Approve vote indicates your agreement that the draft is consistent with the CSD responses.

BALLOT OPEN:
Monday 15 August 2022

BALLOT CLOSE:
Monday 29 August 2022 23:59 AOE

The Project Authorization Request for this Amendment is available at <https://ieee802.org/3/cz/P802d3cz_b_PAR.pdf> and includes the following:

TITLE:
Standard for Ethernet Amendment: Physical Layer Specifications and Management Parameters for multi-gigabit optical Ethernet using graded-index glass optical fiber for application in the automotive environment

SCOPE OF PROJECT:
Specify additions to and appropriate modifications of IEEE Std 802.3 to add Physical Layer specifications and management parameters for multi-gigabit optical Ethernet using graded-index glass optical fiber for application in the automotive environment.

NEED FOR THE PROJECT:
Applications in automotive industries have begun the transition of legacy automotive networks to Ethernet to support Advanced Driver Assist Systems. This has generated a need for data rates greater than 1 Gb/s in the automotive environment. Optical fiber has been used in automotive applications both for Ethernet and other protocols. This project will complement existing IEEE Std 802.3 Electrical Automotive Ethernet specifications for electrical media operation at rates up to 10 Gb/s, as well as proposed specifications for electrical media operation at rates greater than 10 Gb/s in the automotive environment. The number of cameras in vehicles is increasing as is the camera data rate with movement to higher resolution video. Optical data links are applicable to both the vehicle network backbone as well as connection of selected devices where location or other factors favor using an optical link.

Thank you for your participation in this ballot and careful review of the draft.
