[802.3_DIALOG] Celebrating Hugh Barrass

Dear Colleagues,

I'm sure you were as shocked and saddened as I was to be told of the untimely passing of our friend and colleague, Hugh Barrass. I know I would fail in any attempt to list the many contributions Hugh made to IEEE 802.3 projects, and always he did this with his characteristic insight, humour and energy.

I'll be seeking the concurrence of the IEEE 802.3 Working Group at the opening plenary to dedicate the soon to be published IEEE Std 802.3bj-2014 100 Gb/s Backplane and Copper Cable standard to his memory. A dedication will be placed in the frontmatter of the published standard, and a copy of the published standard with a letter will be sent to his family by the IEEE-SA.

John D'Ambrosia will be circulating a memory book at our meetings throughout the plenary week for you to record your memories of Hugh. I realise not everybody on this email reflector that may wish to provide thoughts and memories will be in attendance at the July plenary, if that is the case and you wish to provide thoughts and memories please email them to John D'Ambrosia <john_dambrosia@xxxxxxxx>.

I also know that a number of individuals will be gathering one evening during the plenary week to have a celebration of Hugh’s life, please contact Gary Nicholl <gnicholl@xxxxxxxxx> for more information.

Best regards,
  David
