[802.3_DIALOG] In Memory - Jeff Heath

802.3,

It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you all that Jeff Heath passed away this weekend due to a sudden heart attack.

Jeff was a renaissance engineer with a ready grasp of system, analog, digital and software issues. He holds well over 30 patents in areas ranging from IR cameras, analog circuits, PoE, PoDL, active diodes and anemometer design.

Jeff was an active participant of the IEEE for a decade, contributing to the 802.3at, 802.3bt and 802.3bu committees. For those of us who worked with Jeff, he was – always – unapologetically Jeff.

Jeff didn’t back down, was good for a laugh and a drink, fought tenaciously for what he believed in and always made his presence known. An enormous appetite for adventure was a constant for Jeff, whether he was skydiving, sailing, riding motorcycles or harvesting sea urchins from underwater caves.

Given Jeff’s passion for the ocean, the fact that his final moments were spent on a boat should come as no surprise. Let’s wish him safe journey as he sets sail one last time.

Respectfully,

Heath Stewart
