[802.3_DIALOG] IEEE 802.3 March 2021 plenary update

Dear Colleagues,

As already announced <https://www.ieee802.org/3/email_dialog/msg01139.html>, IEEE 802.3 will hold its March 2021 plenary session telephonically, from Monday 8th March, through Thursday, 18th March 2021.

There will be an IEEE 802.3 Opening plenary meeting on Monday 8th March, an IEEE 802.3 Mid-session plenary meeting on Thursday 11th March 2021, and an IEEE 802.3 Closing plenary session on Thursday 18th March 2021. These meetings will be held from 14h00 UTC to 16h00 UTC, however the dates span when the clock change in some geographies, so please pay particular attention to the meeting times for you.

The draft agendas, as well as liaison letters received so far, are available in the minutes area <http://www.ieee802.org/3/minutes/mar21/index.html> and will be updated as required prior to the meeting. The agenda will be approved at the meeting.

Subgroup (Task Force, standing committee, and any appropriate ad hocs) meetings will be held from Tuesday 9th March 2021 UTC through Wednesday 17th March 2021 UTC, excluding Friday 12th March 2021 UTC through Sunday 14th March 2021 UTC. Meeting information is provided on the IEEE 802.3 Call and Meeting Calendar <https://ieee802.org/3/calendar.html>, further information regarding subgroup meetings are provided below.

As a reminder, attendance credit toward membership requires at least 75% attendance during the plenary session. As a result, you will need to record attendance at a meeting on at least six of the eight meeting days of the March 2021 IEEE 802.3 plenary session, independent of how long a subgroup might be meeting.

Enhancements to Single Pair Ethernet call for interest
------------------------------------------------------

CFI page: <https://ieee802.org/3/cfi/request_0321_1.html>

The following request for agenda time for an Enhancements to Single Pair Ethernet call for interest has been received from George Zimmerman.

----

With the conclusion of IEEE Std 802.3cg-2019, the Ethernet Standard has renewed interest in Ethernet at lower speeds. Renewed interest has broadened the application areas. This has already spawned a project for enhancements to the 10 Mbps shared-media (aka multidrop) operation on mixing segments in IEEE P802.3da; however, the point-to-point PHYs are outside the written scope of the IEEE P802.3da PAR. This call for interest is to consider enhancements related to the use of the point-to-point operation in single pair ethernet, including for example, use of 10BASE-T1L with MACMERGE. The proposed study group would explore any needed enhancements to use the new PHYs in Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) and industrial networking environments.

----

The call for interest will take place during the IEEE 802.3 Opening Plenary teleconference meeting on Monday 9th November with a call for interest planned for 15h00 to 17h00 UTC on Tuesday 9th March 2021.
