[802.3_DIALOG] IEEE 802 Future meeting ad hoc

Dear Colleagues,

I would like to remind you all that there is an IEEE 802 Future meeting ad hoc, details below. The Chair, Andrew Myles, has asked that you all apply your minds to the following basic questions being addressed by the ad hoc. He also suggested that the questions could be answered separately in the context of existing and new projects:

* What aspects of remote operation have worked during COVID?
  o Highlight real examples
o Identify why remote operation was successful in these cases

* What aspects of remote operation have NOT worked during COVID?
  o Highlight real examples
o Identify why remote operation was NOT successful in these cases

* What could be done to turn any failures into successes?
o Describe some real turnaround examples (if any)
o ... or hypothesize about how this could be done

Please share any thoughts you have with Andrew Myles <amyles@xxxxxxxxx> so that he can schedule the summarised thoughts for discussion in a future agenda of the IEEE 802 Future meeting ad hoc.

Thanks and best regards,
  David

Name: IEEE 802 Future meeting ad hoc

Chair: Andrew Myles <amyles@xxxxxxxxx>

Scope: Establish a long-term vision for how IEEE 802 meetings might operate effectively in the future, possibly challenging the historical assumption that IEEE 802 Working Groups meeting face-to-face six times per year is optimal. The immediate goal of the ad hoc will be to understand what has worked well and what has not worked well with remote meetings over the last 18 months, and what would be needed to allow remote meetings to operate better in the future. This understanding will then assist the ad hoc explore the longer-term question of how often IEEE 802 Working Groups should meet face-to-face, remotely or in a hybrid mode in the future.
