Geoff,

Thanks so much! What you outlined makes total sense. I completely agree.

3 follow-ups:

A. For simplicity, clarity of application, and for parallelism of
terminology, I like the name OCU (optical-coax unit) as Marek suggests. I
see the term "duplex repeater" as you suggest as one outlining the
functional nature of the OCU. So, I would say that the OCU is a duplex
repeater. Geoff, would that be appropriate from your perspective?

B. I very much agree with Marek's proposal that the OCU/duplex repeater
have the ability to "sense" the characteristics of the RF Network and
report those to the OLT so that the OLT can "adapt" its operation to
support the media to which the ONU is attached. This approach, if
possible, would very nicely solve the problem of the dissimilar
characteristics of the media at both sides of the OCU/duplex repeater.
Geoff, and all, does this sound OK to everyone? And, would it be
appropriate to make this an Objective for EPOC (or EPoC -- see my separate
Email about this)?

C. I think we can agree to no longer refer to a device called CLT.
Clearly, I think, we all agree that this is a function we don't want. Does
that make sense to everyone?
