Power Sink Example

As a followup to Mike M.'s suggestion that we attempt to compile some
data on power sinks prior to the York meeting, I 'll start off with the
following
contribution with respect to our iP Phone.

Looking into the iP Phone the LAN will see a full-wave bridge followed
by a shunt capacitance of between 100uF and 200uF. No inrush current limiting
should be assumed. The capacitance provides local energy storage for a
switching power supply which is capable of functioning with a source voltage
of between 30VDC and 60VDC. The phone load will be about 3W maximum
and , due to the switching power supply, will present a constant power (negative
resistance) characteristic.

Hopefully we'll have sufficient contributions to make some good progress
on the PAR in York.
