Subject: Solicitation for SAB nominees for DVP

Kathy/John,

Could you please circulate this solicitation to all the SAB Sponsor Committee Chairs, and encourage them to forward the information to their Working Group chairs. We're currently seeking nominations from the standards community for speakers to address IEEE-CS chapters on topics related to standards.

The IEEE-CS Distinguished Visitors Program (DVP) provides a roster of qualified speakers to address IEEE-CS professional and student chapters. The purpose of this memo is to explain briefly how the DVP works and how to nominate someone to join the DVP.
The list of speakers included in the DVP is updated annually. Prospective speakers must apply, or be nominated, for inclusion in the program. IEEE-CS chapters can view the list of speakers, and their topics, and then submit requests for specific speakers to come and speak at one of their chapter meetings. Nominations and visit requests are coordinated through the IEEE-CS office in Washington, DC.

All DVP visits need to be approved in advance by the DVP Chair. IEEE-CS reimburses up to $700 for airfare for approved visits to profession and student chapters. The chapters pay local expenses (hotel, meals, rental car, etc.).

This year, the DVP is specifically soliciting nominations (or self-nominations) for speakers knowledgeable on topics related to standards. The DVP is hoping to add up to ten new standards speakers to its roster for 2007.

Complete information on the DVP, including the speaker nomination form, is located online:  http://www.computer.org/portal/site/ieeecs/menuitem.c5efb9b8ade9096b8a9ca0108bcd45f3/index.jsp?&pName=ieeecs_level1&path=ieeecs/communities/chapter/DVP&file=index.xml&xsl=generic.xsl&;

The deadline for submission of DVP nominations is November 30, 2006. Nominations must include a curriculum vitae for the proposed speaker, a list of topics, and two or three abstracts of proposed topics. DVP nominations should be sent to the IEEE-CS Volunteer Services Coordinator (VSC) at vsc@computer.org. The snailmail address is:

DVP Services
c/o IEEE Computer Society
Volunteer Services Coordinator
1730 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W.
Washington, DC 20036-1992

The attached PowerPoint file contains more detailed information on the DVP program.

Could you please forward this information to your Working Group chairs, and encourage them to solicit nominations from among their Working Groups.

Reminder: the deadline for DVP nominations for 2007 is November 30, 2006.

Thank you for helping recruit standards speakers for the Distinguished Visitor Program.

Dave Schultz
