Re: [STDS-802-11-TGBE] CID 13863 in doc 11-22/1978

Hi All,

Yongho and I had an offline discussion during today’s TGbe MAC meeting and settled on the following text:

Could you please take a look at the text shown below and let me know if you have any additional feedback?

Regards,
Abhi

Hi Yongho,

Thank you for your email.

I am unable to follow your exact concerns for the proposed text. When a STA 6G performs eCSA and moves to lower band, it is no longer a STA 6G. Similar consideration for an eCSA in the opposite direction. The proposed behavior is tied to whether the device is STA 6G or not (inline w/ baseline – see reference below).

>>

In the MLD, we should provide the HT and VHT capabilities regardless of whether the reported STA is STA 6G or not. Because it can operate at 5GHz later.

>>

This will be violation of baseline spec (please see REVme D2.0 P3971L1):

A STA 6G shall not transmit an HT Capabilities element, VHT Capabilities element, HT Operation element, VHT Operation element, or an HE Operation element that contains a VHT Operation Information field.”

Regards,
Abhi

Hi Abhi,

Can't the AP MLD switch the operating channel of one link from 6GHz to 5GHz? Because we have E-CSA, changing the opening class is possible. Probably, it is allowed.

In such a case, the STA of the STA MLD associated with that link can't use the HT and VHT PPDU in 5GHz after completing the operating channel switching from 6GHz to 5GHz? According to the proposed text, the STA MLD can't provide the HT and VHT capabilities in the Association time.

In the MLD, we should provide the HT and VHT capabilities regardless of whether the reported STA is STA 6G or not. Because it can operate at 5GHz later.

Thanks,

Yongho

Hi Laurent,

Thank you for your email.

There two issue that we need to address with respect to the current sentence in the spec (note the sentence is a ‘shall’):

  1. An EHT STA that is a STA 6G does not include HT/VHT Cap IE. An EHT STA that is not a STA 6G does not include HE 6 GHz Band Cap IE.
  2. An EHT STA includes the IEs for a reported STA based on the reported STA’s capabilities.
    1. Note, MBSSID case is not an issue since Op/Cap IEs are common to the set (i.e., not carried in the nonTxBSSID profile).

The revised the text to capture the intention. Please let me know if you have additional inputs.

Regards,
Abhi

Hi Abhi,

Yes, how to set the fields in Multi-Link element is described elsewhere, so the Note is not needed.

I you want to make it clear that the sentence is for describing the BSS and not a reported BSS for MLO, you can add (it transmits “outside the Multi-Link element”), but it’s already quite clear as the sentence says “to include the channel width it is capable of supporting”. Note that maybe the sentence is not fully right when using MBSSID (something to check).

Thanks

Laurent

Subject: [STDS-802-11-TGBE] CID 13863 in doc 11-22/1978

Hi Yongho, Laurent, All,

During yesterday's TGbe MAC call, I proposed the following resolution for CID 13863 in doc 11-22/1978.

There were some concerns expressed about the new paragraph (sentence related to reported STA – highlighted in the snippet below).

I am fine to delete the new (highlighted) paragraph since clause 35.3.3 provides guidance on the conditions for inclusion and contents of a per-STA profile for a reported STA.

Clause 35.15 can focus on the contents of the transmitting (i.e., reporting) STA’s frame.

Could you please let me know if the removal of the new paragraph addresses your concerns and/or if you have other suggestions?

CID 13863 included for reference:

13863

Sanghyun Kim

35.16.1

531.41

When the EHT STA transmits the Supported Channel Width Set subfield in the Per-STA profile corresponding to the other STA, the subfield shall be set in consideration of the capabilities of the other STA.

As in comment.

Regards,
Abhi
