[STDS-802-11-TGBI] Starting CPE MHA vs starting BPE MHA

Hi all,

My understanding is that if a non-AP MLD is assigned to an EPP group during (re)association, then the AP MLD and non-AP MLD do not start applying FA until the first EPP epoch starts after the non-AP MLD (re)associates. At the moment, I can't identify where this is documented in the TGbi draft.

This approach works fine when CPE FA is activated (no BPE).

However, this approach causes problems for BPE FA because:

• Timestamp (in a Privacy Beacon frame) is anonymized using an offset, and
• Address 1, SN  and PN (in a group-addressed frame) are anonymized using offsets.

Consequently, if the non-AP MLD does not apply FA before the start of the first EPP Epoch, and Privacy Beacons or group-addressed frames are transmitted before the start of the first EPP Epoch then the non-AP MLD cannot process those fields.

There seem to be three ways forward:

1. Keep the current rule (no FA until the first EPP epoch after (re)association) and accept the problem as a limitation - the non-AP MLD cannot process those fields until the first EPP epoch after (re)association. (I do not like this option, but I thought it was worth mentioning).
2. Keep the current rule and add an exception for the fields identified above so they are deanonymized starting immediately after (re)association. Note: providing two inconsistent rules might cause confusion.
3. The current rule is changed to a new rule: FA is applied immediately after (re)association.

Do you have any comments on these ways forward?
