Re: [STDS-802-11-TGBN] CR for seamless roaming UL suspension and state changes

Hi, Duncan,

Thanks for the response.

If we follow the text, we may need some error handling process to enable the target AP MLD going back to State 3 and being kept as prepped when the ST execution response is not acked.

This case is also addressed but TBD in the current AP DL discussion as quoted below.

2: Not at least until ST exec resp is transmitted. TBD when it’s not ack’ed (perhaps little value in transmitting other frames if Ack is not going through).

BRs,

Frank

Hi Frank,

Thanks for your question. I think the text is more accurate, which cannot be properly reflected in the table. My thinking is the target AP MLD shall enter state 4 as soon as it receives the ST exec req relayed by the current AP MLD so it’s ready for the non-AP MLD. Then a moment later, the non-AP MLD will receive the ST exec resp from the current AP MLD, at which point the non-AP MLD will enter State 4 with the target.

BR,

Duncan

Hi, Duncan,

Thanks for preparing the document.

One question regarding when the target AP MLD entering the State 4, in the text below, it looks the target AP MLD shall enter State 4 once the current AP MLD receives an STA execution request, and the target AP MLD has been prepared.

However, in the table in your discussion and to my understanding, the target AP MLD should enter State 4 until the ST execution response is successfully sent.

Could you clarify it? Thanks!

37.16.6 SMD BSS transition execution procedure via the current AP MLD

If the current AP MLD receives an ST execution request within the timeout value described in 37.16.5.2 (Target links preparation) and the target AP MLD has been prepared for SMD BSS transition for the non-AP MLD as described in 37.16.5 (SMD BSS transition preparation procedure), then:

The current AP MLD shall transfer any context that is required per 37.16.8 (Context) and has not already been transferred to the target AP MLD (if any) (#10413)and stop transmitting any Class 3 management frames to the non-AP MLD.

(#10413)The target AP MLD shall enter State 4 from State 3 (see 11.3.1 (State variables)) with the non-AP MLD.

Dear Seamless Roaming TTT members,

I’ve drafted this CR to address the UL data suspension and  MLD state change. Could you please review it and let me know if you have any feedback?

Hope to see you in Victoria!

BR,

Duncan
