[STDS-802-11-TGM] Fwd: [STDS-802-11-TGBI] Comment Resolution Tutorial information

--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Task Group M Technical Reflector ---
Greetings,
Carol sent the following email to the TGbi reflector yesterday.

Given the debate on what is a good resolution, and what should be ACCEPTED or REVISED, I think it would be good for TGmf to review again what should be easy for our group.

From the attached presentation:
Disposition status is “Accepted “

Means: The CRG agrees exactly with comment and change proposed by the
commenter.

Prerequisite: The changes proposed in the comment contain sufficient detail so
that voters can understand the specific changes that satisfy the commenter and
the editor can make the change.

Changes to the draft standard must be made verbatim as per the balloter’s
comment.

The disposition detail column should be left blank.

our putting in the "Notes to the Editor" should be the exception not the rule.

We should not be arguing about whether someone has made a comment disposition as REVISED vs ACCEPTED.
It really is not a blemish on the commenter.

We should spend more time on the other CIDs than fighting about this fine point.

As to my part of the disagreement yesterday, "Shirley" is a reference to a movie called airplane, and it was meant to lighten the discussion.
My apologies if the reference was lost on or offended anyone.

Let's get back to working together, supporting the efforts to make the standard better,
Kind Regards,
Jon

Hello everyone,

During the September meeting several people provided feedback that we as a group needed to improve our comment resolution practices.

Joseph Levy provided this information:

For SA ballot the following are the “rules” from IEEE SA ProCom:

https://standards.ieee.org/wp-content/uploads/import/governance/revcom/guidelines.pdf

Note – these guidelines seem to focus on some odd specifics at times – this is because these guidelines are also used by ProCom to guide their review.

Rules on voting on SA ballots are also provided in the SASB OpMan:

https://standards.ieee.org/wp-content/uploads/import/documents/other/sb_om.pdf

Particularly clause 5.4.3.2 and 5.4.3.3

An 802.11 tutorial, which should be update as some terminology has changed (e.g., EC is now LMSC, CRC is now CRG) and some edits would improve clarity, is also available:  https://mentor.ieee.org/802.11/dcn/13/11-13-0230-05-0000-comment-resolution-tutorial.ppt

In addition some of the recommendations for comment resolution text should be updated to align with current 802.11 practice.

Christy Bahn also provided the presentation that is attached.

We will discuss this topic a bit tomorrow and during our planned comment resolution marathon next week.

Regards,

Carol Ansley
